Happy New Year! I hope 2017 will be a great year for everyone! I have been busy core spinning, and I think I have fallen in love with it.
Using the thick DK core means I get a whole lot more bang and it is also a lot thicker! This yarn totaled 67 yards with the core making up roughly 1.5 ounces for a grand total of almost 7 ounces. This was fiber dyed by JulieSpins! Then I spun this core spun bulk yarn also dyed by JulieSpins!
The interesting thing is I got 67 yards again and it roughly weighed the same! Crazy! I just love these bulky quick spins. I only wish my bobbins were bigger because unfortunately it takes two bobbins! Next time I will try to take a picture or video of it in action! I am super stoked about core spinning with a DK core. I did get a little sloppy on the second one though and you can see some of the white chenille poking through. I hope when it is knitted up it will not be noticable! They are both headed for destination cowl land! I really want to make my own blend of roving to dye and knit cowls with, but until I start selling some I need to be a bit frugal!
Also for Christmas my parents got me these two beauties!
They are both merino fleeces from Rhinebeck. My dad goes every year to get me a fleece or two as my Christmas gifts. The white got all 5s on the score card and is so yummy! The brown has colors ranging from brown to taupe, it is so lovely and my first brown fleece! I can not wait till spring when the weather is warmer and I can wash them and dry them outside! (Our male cat Haji trying to get into the fleece!)
What am I doing?? I am attempting to make my own yeast. When I brought this up to my husband and family they thought I was crazy since it is not very expensive at the store. But I make a lot of bread and wanted to give it a go. I am using white flour and filtered water from our tap. So far so good I guess? Mine is like a thick batter and gets bubbly when I feed it. This picture is day 5! I am starting to get a lot so I am going to have to use some along with some packaged yeast until this gets more yeasty!
Lastly I can not wait till winter break is over. I have played too many games of Life, Spot it, Parcheesi, Yatzee, Uno, and countless games with my 4.5 yr old son. I literally say to him "watch some tv" and he responds with "nah how about we play (insert game)" or go outside. Luckily it has been warm enough that outside is tolerable! And while I totally appreciate that my son wants to play board/card games instead of watching tv, sometimes I could use a break!
