So back when my son started his new school which is a Montessori school I was asked if there was anything I could do for a demo later on in the year. Of course I said I spin and knitting. Then I totally forgot about it until mid last week when they asked if the following week I could do a demo. So the rush set it! First up was spinning some cormo on my wheel. I will let the kids see me spin a little and let them ply the singles together.
next up I plan to bring in a fleece and got a few different fiber samples out so the kids can explore and talk about what can be spun!
samples are corriedale, angora, silk mawata, mohair, merino, alpaca, and silk. I might be able to find some more but we can talk about other stuff too. I might bring in some drier lint too! lol.
Also prepped some fiber nests to try thigh spinning. I do not know how well this will turn out but I am optimistic! My son was able to do them with some help, so I think if we split the kids into groups and there are 2 teachers we should be fine. I then made some cardboard looms.
I also picked out some colorful yarn that the kids can add to the yarn they spun and the yarn they plied! I had my son make one:
The demo is tomorrow and I hope the kids have fun and enjoy the fibers and spinning! I am glad prep is done!
