So if you noticed there is a new section called Vacation! What this is going to be in the upcoming weeks is tester skeins. I have some yarn that I am dying up that are not in our standard bases. There will be a mix of lace, dk, bulky, and anything else! This week these two yarns will make there way into the section.
The two colorways are Cliffside Rose and Hydrangea. They will appear on two bases a lace weight 8-ply 100% merino yarn in skeins of 300 yards for $14 and a super bulky weight 70% merino, 20% alpaca, 10% silk blend in skeins of 73 yards for $24. There will only be two skeins of each color on each base. If you want a specific color to appear drop me a note here or in our Ravelry group. I am planning on doing this each week for about a month and who knows what will show up!
So back when my son started his new school which is a Montessori school I was asked if there was anything I could do for a demo later on in the year. Of course I said I spin and knitting. Then I totally forgot about it until mid last week when they asked if the following week I could do a demo. So the rush set it! First up was spinning some cormo on my wheel. I will let the kids see me spin a little and let them ply the singles together.
next up I plan to bring in a fleece and got a few different fiber samples out so the kids can explore and talk about what can be spun!
samples are corriedale, angora, silk mawata, mohair, merino, alpaca, and silk. I might be able to find some more but we can talk about other stuff too. I might bring in some drier lint too! lol.
Also prepped some fiber nests to try thigh spinning. I do not know how well this will turn out but I am optimistic! My son was able to do them with some help, so I think if we split the kids into groups and there are 2 teachers we should be fine. I then made some cardboard looms.
I also picked out some colorful yarn that the kids can add to the yarn they spun and the yarn they plied! I had my son make one:
The demo is tomorrow and I hope the kids have fun and enjoy the fibers and spinning! I am glad prep is done!
